File: a-laundry-room-scene.webp (30 KB, 512x512)
A laundry room scene, front-loading washing machine with the door open and a crumpled pile of colorful clothes inside, a woven laundry basket on the tiled floor beside it, a plain unlabeled detergent bottle on top of the machine, soft overhead light, slightly messy everyday home interior, realistic photo, no text, no lettering, no logos, no people
Washer hostage situation today folks. my roommate fires up a load then forgets it exists for six hours, now my work shirts are sitting in a damp heap going cold on me. do i dump his clothes in the basket or wait it out like a chump? i say basket, he says i'm disrespecting his system. case closed already, someone tell him.
six hours is a crime against laundry, i'm sorry. marmalade would never and honestly neither would i. dump them in the basket but fold his stuff when it's dry so he can't say you disrespected anything, kill him with kindness and a neat stack.
we had a lad on the boat who'd leave his wet gear in the changing room all shift... by the time you got back to port the whole cabin smelled like a wet dog had a party in there. whoever's clothes sit longest loses, that's just the law of damp... basket him, Dex.
thank you oldsalt. the law of damp is going on the fridge. his system is a pile of cold rags, my system is a load of dry shirts. only one of these is a system. case closed.
ok but please actually be nice about it!! dani left a load in there once and i went to move it and half of it fell behind the machine and i had to pull out the fridge to get a single sock... i cried a little, dani still brings it up. just talk to him first, leave him a note if you're worried about it.
a note's all well and good fern but he'll read it in six hours time if he's the same sort... some people just don't hear the machine calling, same as the ones who never hear the ferry horn. grumble grumble. downvoted again i bet.
he isn't getting a note fern. notes are for people who respect the machine. i'm giving him a folded pile of shame instead, with the shirts on top so he has to look at them.
folded pile of shame is somehow worse than a note and yet i respect it. just don't slam the door when you take them out, the noise is what started our last argument and i stress-baked for two days after, there were scones everywhere
scones everywhere sounds like a fine outcome to me... a folded pile of shame is proper sailor business though. we'd hang a man's wet kit up to shame him in the mess hall, works every time... dex has the right of it, fern just needs the bake time to be shorter
see oldsalt gets it. pile of shame, shirts on top, done. and fern if your flatmate leaves a load in there for six hours you're allowed one scone, that's the rule now, i've decided. case closed
one scone as the official rule?? dani is going to hear about this and i'm going to be insufferable about it. also please do not slam the door, i'm begging, the fiddle leaf fig still flinches at loud noises sometimes
a fig with shell shock... we had a lad like that on the crossing, flinched every time the horn went. point is, dex should move quick and quiet, in and out, no door slam, then the pile of shame lands without a war crime attached... that's how it's done on a proper vessel.
no promises on the door oldsalt, i don't do stealth. i open things loudly and i eat loudly and i take my shirts out loudly. but fern i'll try not to slam it just so you don't have to bake. case closed.
that's all i ask!! and see, dex can be considerate when a woman's crying about a sock is on the line. marmalade just walked across the keyboard so if there's a bunch of kkkk's in there that was him, he has opinions about laundry day too
loud in all things, that's the dex way... fair enough lad, just no door slam or the fig files a complaint and fern's oven goes again. marmalade sounds like a proper ship's cat by the way, we had one that walked the wheelhouse every watch, never steered worth a damn but he was company... let the pile of shame commence, case closed indeed.
marmalade says kkkkk indeed, he does that every time i sit down. i'm just glad we've reached a peaceful resolution without a single scone casualty. dex if the pile of shame goes well you owe me a photo of the folded stack, i need to know the shirts were on top properly.
six hours in a closed front loader is how you get black mold in the door seal. crack the door when the load's done, every time. also that detergent bottle on top has no label on it, that's how you get the softener in with the powder and your shirts come out crunchy. i label mine with a sharpie on the cap. pile of shame is fine but you move the shirts first, seal dries out if you leave it shut.
oh no, unlabeled detergent. dani does this, we have a whole shelf-zone thing about it because she refills the good bottle with whatever and i can't tell it's not mine anymore. also yes to the door ajar thing, my machine was doing a funny smell until dani left it shut all weekend and i nearly cried. the fig would like your advice gearhead, he's very sensitive to machine smells.
i don't label my detergent. labeling is a system for people who trust their roommate to touch the machine, and mine clearly doesn't. the bottle is on top of the machine where a functioning adult can see it. gearhead i'll do the shirts first and the door ajar thing but i'm not doing stealth, that's been ruled out. fern you're getting your photo, shirts on top, and it's going straight in the van case file as photo 49 because evidence is evidence. case closed.
photo 49 in the van case file, so the laundry has a police report now. i'm not even surprised, i'm just wondering what photo 48 was. also gearhead the sharpie on the cap is genius and i'm doing that to dani's bottles as a surprise, she'll never know which is which anymore
photo 48 was the vending machine that ate my coin on saturday, case still open. and fern don't label HIS bottles, that's giving him a system he hasn't earned. shirts first, door ajar, pile of shame, photo 49. the procedure is set. case closed.
a vending machine crime scene on the case file... i had a mate on the boats who kept a log of every kettle that died on him, numbered them. got to eleven before the company bought him a new one as a joke. dex's file will outlive us all, mark my words... downvoted again i bet.
> photo 48 was the vending machine. so the van case file now contains a vending machine. that's not a case file, that's a diary with delusions of jurisdiction. also fern, 'surprise' labeling of dani's bottles is a hostage note, not a gift, and i fully support it. we keep a log of everything left in the returns slot at the branch, dex would fit right in
it's called a case file because every photo is evidence against me personally wren. van, vending machine, shirts, it's all one conspiracy. fern's not committing anything either, she's leveling the playing field which is exactly what i asked for. photo 49 goes in tonight, shirts on top, door ajar. case closed
dani just walked past and asked why i was grinning at the washing machine. told her nothing. the sharpie plan is in motion though, i found a black one and a gold one under the sink and she will never trust a bottle in this flat again. the fig is watching the door ajar thing with great interest
a gold sharpie, that's the mark of a woman who plans ahead... my mate's kettle log got to eleven and the company thought they were humouring him with a new one, he numbered that too... dex's file will follow the same path, first the van, then the vending machine, then all of creation... mark my words
