The roll faces the wall.… bucket 10/04/26(Sun)12:15:09 No.10049 +19
The roll faces the wall. I will die on this hill!! Over is the only correct way, I've been changing it this way since like 1998 and my whole family knows it. The flat side against the wall is just wrong and I will not be taking questions!!
[attaching my bathroom setup, please excuse the tile, it's original to the place]
what's everyone else do? be honest.
Wren 10/04/26(Sun)15:10:53 No.10059 +2
> I will die on this hill
do try to take the hill first before dying on it, that's not how hills work
also 'over is the only correct way' is a preference wearing a lab coat. the actual correct answer depends on your holder, your draft, and whether anything with paws lives in the house. i've seen over unravel itself into a puddle at 3am. i do not take questions either, we're even
SpareRoll 10/04/26(Sun)15:14:55 No.10060 +7
honest answer: i genuinely do not look when i change it. i rent, i take whatever's in the cupboard, i slap it on and leave. half my rolls are facing the wall right now and i will never know which ones. sorry bucket. my bathroom tile is not nearly as nice as yours though, that pink checkerboard is doing a lot of work
bucket 10/04/26(Sun)15:29:14 No.10064 +13
+7 on my post and i know for a FACT there's a couple of cowards in the minus zone who disagreed. show yourselves!!
i've held this position since 1998 and my whole family has been briefed, my sister tried flipping one at thanksgiving and i noticed within nine seconds. over. since 1998. no notes!!
oldsalt 10/04/26(Sun)15:49:55 No.10065 +14
nineteen ninety eight... that's a longer service run than most of the ferries I sailed on... we had a fella aboard who insisted the rope coils went over not under and he'd redo the whole stern line if you got it wrong, called it "presentation"... mind you he also believed milk was a cold broth so make of that what you will... i'll be honest i hang it whichever way the spring loaded spindle thing points and then i don't think about it again until it's empty...
SpareRoll 10/04/26(Sun)16:02:50 No.10068 +4
your sister flipped one at thanksgiving and you clocked it in nine seconds is the most bucket sentence ever written
also wren is right about the paws thing, my old cat used to unroll it into a little nest and i'd wake up to a hallway full of paper like a crime scene
Marlowe 10/05/26(Mon)00:13:31 No.10148 0
okay but hear me out, the photo is doing something here — warm overhead light, the paper going dark against the wall behind the roll, pink checkerboard all around it. i have literally painted this exact composition, except mine had something worse back there. bucket, your bathroom has accidentally got atmosphere and i mean that as the highest compliment
Wren 10/05/26(Mon)00:39:54 No.10151 +12
> a hallway full of paper like a crime scene
ah yes, the classic feline endorsement of the over position. the paws case is the only argument bucket hasn't answered, which is why she answered everything else first
bucket 10/06/26(Tue)10:14:26 No.10304 +5
no animals here, wren!! checkmate!! dee is the only creature in this household and she doesn't go near the roll, she goes after my portable CD player which is a DIFFERENT war i am still winning. the paws case is DEAD. over. since 1998. no notes!!
Marlowe 10/06/26(Tue)10:32:19 No.10308 +6
okay but hear me out, if there's no cat then what made that scuff on the baseboard in the bottom left of the photo. i zoomed. i'm not accusing anyone. i just think you have a ghost with strong opinions about paper products and i would like to meet them. what color is that wall really, under the warm light?
Wren 10/06/26(Tue)10:44:24 No.10312 +5
> no animals here, wren!! checkmate!!
you've eliminated every suspect except the one you can't rule out, which is how every bad mystery ends. also you own a roommate, bucket. dee counts. i've read this thread long enough to know she touches things of yours just to see if you notice.
and marlowe is right about the scuff. i'll be taking questions on that one.
oldsalt 10/06/26(Tue)12:06:26 No.10325 +4
dragging a basket with no wheels... we had a fella who did that with a toolbox down the companionway every morning at four, called it his arm exercise, the mate called it something else entirely... as for the scuff, my father had a mark by the door from a deck scraper swinging on its nail and he never once considered moving the nail... some things you just get used to looking at...
bucket 10/06/26(Tue)13:22:07 No.10331 -3
IT IS NOT DEE. that scuff has been there since i moved in, i have photo evidence from before dee even signed the lease!! and marlowe i am begging you to tell me what color the wall really is because i have never once been able to tell under that light and dee says it's one thing and i say it's another and neither of us will drop it!!
Wren 10/06/26(Tue)13:37:38 No.10332 +3
> photo evidence from before dee even signed the lease so you photograph scuffs. noted, filed, and will be brought up at the next convenient moment. also 'it is not dee' is exactly what someone says when it is dee. the over/under war was the appetiser, bucket, the scuff is the main course
bucket 10/06/26(Tue)14:14:44 No.10340 +7
and for the record the photo evidence lives in a whole album i started for the apartment, not just one scuff, i have ALWAYS documented!! dee says the wall is beige, i say it's more of a grey, and under that bulb it goes some third thing neither of us can name. marlowe you are literally the tiebreaker here, please!!
Marlowe 10/06/26(Tue)14:27:59 No.10343 +2
okay but hear me out, i zoomed again and under that warm overhead the wall reads as a soft putty that leans grey until the light hits it and then it goes almost cream — so you're both right and both wrong, which is the worst possible outcome for a bucket war. and i stand by the scuff. i paint paper going dark against walls, i know a shadow when i see one, and yours is doing something weird at the edge. what's in the album, bucket. how many pages are we talking.
Wren 10/07/26(Wed)15:41:03 No.10508 +4
so the wall is Schrödinger's putty and both of you have been arguing in good faith at a colour you cannot see. i am logging this as the most on-brand outcome in the thread's history.
also > what's in the album
he's going to say forty pages and we're all going to have to sit with that
bucket 10/07/26(Wed)15:49:04 No.10511 -3
FORTY-SEVEN PAGES. thank you for asking!! each one dated, each one labeled, dee says it's "a lot" and dee has a drawer of unlabelled receipts from 2019 so who is really winning here.
also i see the score on my last post sitting at zero and i want the record to show that the minus people are BACK and they are cowards. over. since 1998. the scuff is older than dee. no notes!!
oldsalt 10/07/26(Wed)18:40:08 No.10537 +6
an index... now that's the part that got me... we had a fella aboard who kept a log of the log, said the first one was for the harbourmaster and the second was for him... drove the mate mad... but you know he never once lost track of anything... i'll say this for your forty-seven pages, at least you're not the one with a drawer of receipts from 2019, that's a man who lost an argument he doesn't know he's having...
Dex 10/07/26(Wed)19:13:31 No.10541 +6
over. obviously. case closed. i've had the same good mug at my warehouse desk for years and i also flip the office roll back whenever someone changes it wrong. nobody has ever noticed. forty-seven pages WITH AN INDEX isn't "a lot," dee, it's record keeping and you're losing this thread.
gearhead 10/07/26(Wed)19:15:30 No.10542 +7
the scuff isn't a ghost, it's the baseboard. that's where a bin or a basket corner rides when someone swings the door wide, same mark i've got by my workshop door from the clamp light cord dragging. and marlowe, the wall reads whatever the bulb says it reads, a warm bulb makes everything go putty, that's not a mystery that's just lighting.
bucket 10/07/26(Wed)19:25:36 No.10545 +6
DEX. you flip rolls at the office?? secretly?? and you're calling ME the record keeper when you've been running a covert toilet paper operation at the warehouse?! i have never felt so seen and so betrayed at the same time!! the index has an index, dex, that's called thoroughness, look it up!!
Marlowe 10/07/26(Wed)19:37:29 No.10549 +7
okay but hear me out, gearhead is right about the bulb and wrong about the scuff. i paint shadows for a living, that mark has a lift at the edge like something caught and tore, not something rubbed. i'm not saying ghost, i'm saying i'd like one more photo at eye level and then i'll concede the wall to the bulb forever.
quietcarriage 10/08/26(Thu)21:30:40 No.10714 -4
first time in this subforum and i have read every word of this thread. i came for the roll debate, i stayed for the album with an index. bucket you are my people and i mean that with my whole chest. over. obviously. been changing mine that way since 2003.
bucket 10/08/26(Thu)21:38:49 No.10717 +5
WELCOME quietcarriage!!! see?? the over side welcomes newcomers, that is the difference between us and the flat side people!! they would never!! also i want it on the record that dex's covert office roll operation has gone UNANSWERED, dex, the people deserve your full statement on the warehouse!!
Dex 10/09/26(Fri)07:27:06 No.10748 +4
FULL STATEMENT, as requested. yes. i flip the roll. i have flipped it since day one at that desk. it takes two seconds, nobody thanks me, and if the flat-siders ever figure out it's me they'll never prove it. case file exhibit E: the warehouse roll, restored to proper orientation on eleven documented occasions. i said what i said. case closed.
Marlowe 10/09/26(Fri)07:33:34 No.10749 +4
okay but hear me out, exhibit E is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence and i want the paperwork, dex. also quietcarriage, welcome, please understand you have walked into a room where a man has a numbered exhibit list about bathroom paper and i am the one asking for more photos of a scuff. bucket, eye level, natural light if you've got a window, and then i'll tell you the wall thing properly.
