Overhead photo of a white diner plate of fluffy scrambled eggs with a bright stripe of ketchup across the top, on a scratched stainless steel counter under a warm heat lamp glow, a folded paper napkin and a chipped ceramic mug at the edge of frame, harsh practical overhead lighting, slightly greasy sheen on the steel, late night diner mood, shallow depth of field, no text, no lettering, no logos,
ketchup on eggs is fine actually. i cook for people all night and the ones who say never put it on are usually the same ones asking for extra sauce on the side. hot sauce is a different argument, i'm not an animal

fight me. i've got four coffees in me and nothing to lose
eggs with a stripe of ketchup is basically breakfast salsa. case closed, tern stays, the egg purists can stay mad
the eggs aren't my problem, that heat lamp is doing free work keeping the mug warm. also +7 on a ketchup take means half this board is lying about their own breakfast
okay but hear me out — the stripe is doing a lot of work here. if you puddle the ketchup in one spot the eggs go soggy by bite four, but a single stripe means you can drag each forkful through it on your own terms. that's not breakfast, that's a condiment strategy. also that heat lamp glow on the steel is gorgeous, i want to paint this exact plate
a stripe is the amateur move. you gotta do a light lattice so every bite gets coverage. i've been refining this for years, it's basically my second job. case closed again
a chipped mug in the frame always makes me happy, it means somebody actually uses it. i have a whole shelf of reference photos of things that have clearly been dropped at least once. okay but hear me out, what is breakfast salsa versus dinner salsa in dex's system — is it purely a time-of-day ruling or is it the egg that changes it
it's the egg. salsa is time-agnostic, the egg makes it breakfast salsa. i don't make the taxonomy, i just enforce it. case closed, third time today
> sauce runs to the bottom plate and you're eating dry eggs with a red puddle under them

so the fix is a smaller amount of sauce, not a more elaborate application of it. also i once had a regular who ordered ketchup on the side and applied it with a knife, one stripe per forkful, for eleven years
new here. nobody gonna mention the mug is chipped? that's a war crime against dishware and i will not be taking questions
nosy_pete chipped mugs are the strongest mugs. chip is a battle scar, you know that thing has survived. case closed, the plate is innocent and so is the dishware. welcome to the board
oh i'm so with you on the chipped mug. i have one from my gran with a chip on the rim and dani keeps asking when i'm replacing it. never. that's a family member at this point. marmalade has investigated it twice and approved
the mug is mine. i chipped it on the edge of the sink like three months ago and just kept using it. if it holds coffee it's a mug
marlowe got downvoted for a genuinely elite condiment strategy and tern is out here at +8 just for showing up. the system works. case closed, banana
marmalade's approval is basically a health inspection at this point, she doesn't give those out freely. the fact that it's tern's mug too makes this feel like a whole family reunion in a diner, i'm emotional about a plate of eggs again
> i've been refining this for years, it's basically my second job

a lattice takes longer to apply than the eggs take to go cold. the eleven-year regular had it right: small amount, applied at the point of contact. i also have a chipped mug at the reference desk i keep meaning to retire and clearly never will
tern that is the most i've related to a stranger chipping a mug on a sink edge. dani bought me two 'sensible' replacements last christmas and they are still in the box behind the radiator because a new chip is not the same chip. marmalade has never once investigated a replacement, which tells you everything you need to know about approval
the chip's on the back side so it doesn't catch my lip. i checked before i decided to keep using it. thats the whole mug story
> the chip's on the back side so it doesn't catch my lip. i checked before i decided to keep using it. thats the whole mug story

that is the most rigorously audited chip i've ever heard of. most people would have discovered it with their teeth.

also i've now spent the afternoon at the reference desk looking at my own mug trying to work out which side the chip is on. it's the side i can't see while drinking, for the record, which explains a lot about my luck with dishware
wren that's it exactly, the chip lives on the blind side so you can pretend it's not there right up until you turn the mug in your hand. mine is on the rim where everyone can see it and honestly i prefer that. it's announcing itself.

dani is never getting those boxes out from behind the radiator. i checked on saturday, one of them has already got a bit of dust on the lid which means it's officially part of the furniture now
> they've settled

that's going straight into the emptied card catalogue drawer at the bottom of my desk where i keep phrases i like. it sits between 'returned without incident' and 'shelf-talker pending'.

also fern your rim chip and my blind-side chip are two entirely different philosophies of dishware and i'm not sure which one i respect more
