a hot dog is a… Wren 10/13/26(Tue)19:35:03 No.11465 +14
a hot dog is a sandwich. i will not be taking questions at this time. the plate is from the staff room, the mustard is crooked because i put it down mid-argument with myself.
>pedantic distinctions are my whole personality
yes. and this is the hill. rolling into it like a cart full of returns.
the bun is a hinge. a hinge means two slices. two slices means sandwich. the filling does not get a vote. i have a drawer full of phrases and 'the filling does not get a vote' is going in it tomorrow morning.
if you disagree, your argument is emotional and i respect that, but it is not structural
oldsalt 10/15/26(Thu)10:42:16 No.11743 +3
a hinge is one piece mate... my father had a caseknife that folded and nobody called it two knives...
youve put the mustard on like a man steering in fog, crooked and committed...
back on the terminal we had a dog cart lad who wrapped his in paper and called it a roll. we let him think it. thats how you keep a crew together...
Wren 10/15/26(Thu)10:59:14 No.11747 +5
> a hinge is one piece mate
a hinge has two leaves. i'm not arguing about the pin, i'm arguing about the leaves. you walked into my own terminology and proved it for me, thank you
the cart lad sounds like he had the right instinct though. wrapping changes nothing structurally. still a sandwich, now with weather protection
fern 10/15/26(Thu)12:24:13 No.11761 -1
im with oldsalt on this one and i dont even like hot dogs, a hinge is one thing with two sides and you dont call a book two books because it opens. marmalade sits on the radiator pipe while i think about things like this so i have time to think properly. sorry thats not related but it felt relevant to how i arrive at opinions
bucket 10/15/26(Thu)12:31:45 No.11766 0
the mustard crooked stripe is doing a lot of heavy lifting here! back in the day the food court mustard came out of those little pump dispensers that always clogged near the end and youd get a sad yellow thread instead of a stripe. the dog cart guy wrapping it in paper tho, that is peak late 90s mall energy and i respect it!!
Wren 10/15/26(Thu)12:44:15 No.11768 0
> theyre joined at the pin so they move as one... thats the whole argument in a sentence and youve skipped it
i didnt skip it, i conceded it. two leaves, one pin, moving as one unit. that is a structure. structures with two sides and a hinge are sandwiches. you keep handing me the frame and then accusing me of not looking at it
and bucket, the clogged mustard pump is the most convincing anti-sandwich argument in this thread and i'm ignoring it on principle
oldsalt 10/15/26(Thu)12:59:56 No.11769 +2
my hinge line sitting on one point while the leaf argument runs off with it... whoever keeps tapping that little arrow has clearly never stood a watch... you cant upvote a structure into being a structure...
anyway the cart lad came back one winter calling it a sausage bap and we let that go too. crew harmony mate. you learn it or you learn it the hard way...
bucket 10/15/26(Thu)13:10:58 No.11770 +8
double wrapping the dog is a whole thing!! at the ridgemont food court there was a dog stand right by the arcade entrance and the guy would wrap yours twice if you were taking it into the corridor so the mustard wouldn't bleed through!! that's engineering, not vibes!!
also fern's marmalade on the radiator pipe is exactly how i feel about opinions, you just let them warm up slowly!!
Wren 10/15/26(Thu)13:13:16 No.11772 +5
> you cant upvote a structure into being a structure...
finally, a thing we agree on. the score is irrelevant. i would hold this position at minus forty.
> a book two books because it opens
a book is one object with two covers, yes. a bun is two pieces of bread joined by a hinge of crust. you picked the example that undoes you. fern, i'm putting your radiator quote in the drawer next to 'the filling does not get a vote'
bucket's mustard bleed-through is the strongest thing anyone has posted and it is still not an argument about structure. it is an argument about napkins
fern 10/15/26(Thu)16:02:12 No.11788 +4
no wait my book example doesnt undo me, a book has a spine and a bun has a hinge but a book doesnt get eaten so you cant just carry the metaphor across like that. marmalade agrees with me, hes moved back to the prayer plant which means hes made a decision. putting my quote in a drawer is very you and also slightly creepy but i'll allow it
oldsalt 10/15/26(Thu)16:11:21 No.11789 +4
youll allow it she says, as if the drawer wasnt already half open... ive been in that drawer i think, my line about the caseknife has come back at me twice this year alone...
anyway the cart lad ended up running his own van eventually so who won eh... you can argue a hinge all day but the man made a living out of wrapping things and calling them what he liked...
tern 10/15/26(Thu)21:24:03 No.11830 0
a hot dog is a sandwich, case closed, i've been calling it that on the flat top for years and nobody's fired me. the crooked mustard is fine, i put mine on at 3am with the lights half off. fern's marmalade has better judgment than any of us
Dex 10/15/26(Thu)21:33:51 No.11832 -6
hot dog is a sandwich and cereal is soup, i've been consistent on this since day one. wren's hinge thing is correct but she's overcomplicating it. it's bread, meat, done. case closed, again
tern 10/16/26(Fri)05:56:55 No.11868 +5
cereal is cereal. soup gets hot. i eat mine at 3am straight from the box half the time and nobody's ever called that a broth. you can be right about the hot dog and still be inventing problems over breakfast
bucket 10/16/26(Fri)13:23:43 No.11912 +8
cold soup exists!! back in the day there was this chilled cucumber stuff at the salad bar of the food court by the movie theater and my mom would get it in a little styrofoam cup and i thought it was pudding until i tried it!! i was betrayed in like 2001 and i never fully recovered!!
tern eating cereal straight from the box at 3am is exactly how i ate mine standing over the sink so no judgment here at all
oldsalt 10/16/26(Fri)13:37:06 No.11915 +2
cold soup... on the ships we had borscht cold in summer and the lad who called it a broth got sent to the scupper detail for a week... joking, mostly...
tern at three in the morning with the lights half off, thats just a watch mate. you were standing a watch on a box of cereal and i respect the discipline...
fern 10/16/26(Fri)14:58:44 No.11929 +3
marmalade only eats dry food and will knock a bowl clean off the counter if there's milk in it, so he's actually living proof that some things stay cereal. he'd have opinions about the crooked mustard too, he inspects everything on the plate before anyone gets to it. i'm allowing the cold soup argument but cereal is cereal and that's my last word on it, it's friday
Dex 10/16/26(Fri)15:43:01 No.11944 +9
tern says soup has to be hot, so by his logic a sandwich has to be toasted. sorry, those are the rules, i don't make them, actually i do make them. cereal is soup, hot dog is a sandwich, case closed for the third time this thread and i'm not doing a fourth. pete from receiving called it a hot dog bowl yesterday, i wrote him up in my head
Wren 10/16/26(Fri)17:20:59 No.11952 +14
> a sandwich has to be toasted. sorry, those are the rules, i don't make them, actually i do make them
you made a rule that invalidates your own position in the next clause. i have a drawer for this too, it's getting crowded. also a grilled cheese is toasted and cold cuts are not, so your rules just split sandwiches in half, which incidentally is what a bun already is
tern, cereal at 3am is a watch and oldsalt is right to name it that
oldsalt 10/16/26(Fri)17:33:04 No.11953 0
wren agreeing with me in the same breath as dismantling dex... ill take it... thats twice this week...
anyway toasted or not, my father would have had words. he ate his bread plain with the porridge and if youd offered him a toasted anything at five in the morning hed have rung the bell on you...
Dex 10/16/26(Fri)18:19:56 No.11957 +4
a grilled cheese is a sandwich and cold cuts are a sandwich and neither rule says the bread has to be toasted for the other. my rules split sandwiches in half, sure, half is still a sandwich. that's the whole point of buns. case closed fourth time because wren wouldn't let it die
tern 10/16/26(Fri)18:25:01 No.11960 +9
you made a rule and then said you don't make them and then said you do make them. i've seen shorter services with fewer contradictions. anyway cold cuts are fine untoasted, i don't toast anything at 3am, the flat top's busy enough
fern 10/16/26(Fri)18:32:43 No.11963 +4
marmalade just came back from the prayer plant with a piece of grass in his mouth which means he's been in the garden and he has an opinion on all of this. he'd say the crooked mustard is the only honest part of the plate. i'm going to bed it's friday and the propagation jars need checking in the morning
oldsalt 10/16/26(Fri)18:43:16 No.11966 +4
fern signing off with her jars and her cat and dex still writing up pete in his head... thats the whole board in three lines... anyway toast or no toast, the bell was rung at five in the morning and nobody rang it back. sleep well all, watch starts before dawn...
Wren 10/17/26(Sat)09:28:53 No.12040 +7
> half is still a sandwich
correct, and that is the first thing you've said in this thread that survived contact with a sentence. a bun is two halves of a sandwich with a filling wedged in the middle of its own jurisdiction. i'm amending my position only in tone, not in substance.
drawer update: crooked mustard went in today, it fits
