File: early-morning-break-room.webp (13 KB, 512x512)
Early morning break room in a warehouse office, lights off, cold blue-grey daylight through a dusty industrial window, a large ceramic mug with a faded worn printed design sitting alone in the center of a scuffed table, faint wisps of steam rising from it, empty chairs pushed in, coffee tin and kettle untouched, slightly grainy phone snapshot, eerie quiet atmosphere, no text, no lettering, no logo
My mug was already warm at 5:58. Walked into the break room, lights still off, and there it is sitting dead center of the table, my faded one, with a little steam coming off it like somebody just poured it. Nobody else is in the building yet, I checked. Case closed, I have no explanation.
okay but who poured it?? i'm getting chills reading this. if someone left my mug steaming on the table i'd think one of the cats had somehow followed me to work and made me a coffee, which i know doesn't make sense but that's where my head goes
we had a thing like this on the old boat... the kettle would be warm and the mess empty and no soul aboard to account for it... turned out the second engineer was up before all of us and never said a word about it... you say you checked the building Dex, but did you check every corner of it...
> My mug was already warm at 5:58

the mug was warm or the mug was full? those are different logs. also 'i checked' is doing a lot of work in that sentence - how long were you checking, and did you check the side door you prefer now
full AND warm. and yes wren, i checked the side door, it was still bolted from the inside exactly how i left it yesterday. so nobody came in that way either. case closed twice
bolted from the inside... now that's a proper detail... we had a lamp left burning in the forward store once and every soul swore they hadn't been near it... turned into a whole business about the watch rota... did the kettle have water in it Dex or was it dry...
wait if the kettle is untouched then the water in the mug came from somewhere else and now i need to sit down. also i once found a mug of tea i'd made the night before still faintly warm under the astoundingly thick blanket my flatmate puts over the washing basket and i have thought about that ever since
> full AND warm

so the log column is 'full', not 'warm'. thank you. and a bolted side door means either nobody came in or somebody came in the main door at an hour nobody comes in, which is a different and more annoying entry. kettle untouched goes in its own column, separate from tin-wiping
