File: grainy-cold-phone-snapshot.webp (7 KB, 512x512)
grainy cold phone snapshot at dawn of an empty harbour berth, a single mooring rope tied to an iron bollard on a wet stone slipway, stretched tight and perfectly straight out over dark still water, no boat attached, frost catching the top of the rope, blue-grey winter light, low mist over the far side of the water, empty and quiet, slight camera grain
The rope was already taut...

Up before six as usual, kettle on, and I took my coffee down the east slip with the chipped mug... the berth by the old loading ramp is empty, has been empty since they moved the run... but the line was stretched right out over the water, dead tight, not a sag in it...

I give it a knock with my knuckle and it hummed... like a string on an instrument... tied off at the bollard, going out over the dark, and nothing at the other end...

Walked the whole slip... no boat, no tender, nothing moving out there... and it was cold enough that the line had frost on the top of it but not underneath...

Ronnie will say it's the tide... Ronnie says everything is the tide...
