that tea bag is so slumped it looks personally defeated. did you make that tea and then just... not drink it. this is the third sad abandoned drink you've posted this week and i'm starting to take it personally on your behalf

brush across the mug rim. that's a bridge. load bearing. case closed, that's the most structurally sound thing in the photo and everything else on that table knows it

the puddle of cooled tea is real. thats the tea you forget about because you got distracted mid-cup. i have done this exact thing roughly nine hundred times. respect

okay but hear me out, look at the ferrule. that grey-blue isn't a colour i mixed this week and it isn't the leaf green i've been chasing. i genuinely don't remember taking that brush out of the jar. the jam jar is where everything lives and that one is just... out, laid across my mug like someone put it down on purpose. the tea bag slump is fair though fern, i'm not arguing with the tea bag

so you have a brush that left its post, committed a smear, and is now lounging across a mug. that's not a brush that's a guy on his last shift who knows he can't be fired. case closed again
fern 10/31/26(Sat)19:39:21 No.14335 +3
no because now i'm on the brush's side. imagine being wedged in a glass with a dozen other bristles and one night you just decide you're done, you go lie across the mug like it's a life raft. ginger does this exact thing with the cuttings jar, she knocks one onto the floor and then sits next to it like she's guarding it, same energy from your brush honestly and i respect it

dried paint skin in the bottom of the jar. you pull the brush behind it, the crust grabs hold, out it comes wet, so you set it on the mug because your hands are full. that's not a mystery that's just jars. i've had a shop jar of brushes by the bench for eleven years and they escape constantly, i find them in pockets and on top of the vice

ok this is giving me full flashbacks to my nan leaving a cup on the sideboard, then going to make a fresh one and finding the old one and ending up with two going at once for the afternoon. the brush escaping the jar tracks too, my grandad had lures that used to migrate into his coat pockets and he never owned up to it. the grey-blue is creeping me out slightly tho not gonna lie
tallow 10/31/26(Sat)22:22:54 No.14362 -1
long time lurker, first time posting. that grey-blue looks like dried primer or an old house paint sample to me, the kind that sits in a tin for years and comes out that exact tired colour when you drag something through it. you probably made that smear months ago and the jar just handed it back to you now
fern 11/01/26(Sun)08:19:01 No.14385 +3
tallow welcome!! and yes thank you, the tired old tin explanation is exactly the kind of thing i needed to hear because i was starting to imagine the brush having a little midlife crisis at 4am. ginger once dragged a felt tip pen out of the drawer and left it on the arm of the sofa like she'd finished a shift too, so honestly the jar handing it back makes me feel better about everything
gearhead 11/01/26(Sun)08:28:20 No.14386 +2
tallow's probably right. old paint sits in a tin for years, skins over, and the colour goes that flat chalky tone no one actually chose. i've got a half tin of grey primer in the corner of the garage i haven't opened since i moved in. if you dragged a brush through the bottom of your jar you'd get exactly that. check the bottom of the jar for a crust and you'll have your answer
Marlowe 11/01/26(Sun)08:41:42 No.14387 +4
okay but hear me out, i just went and looked at the bottom of the jar under the lamp and there IS a crust, grey, all the way round the base like a tideline. so the smear could have come up with it when the brush got pulled through. what i can't explain is why the brush came all the way out and got laid across the mug. your hands full theory works gearhead, but my hands were apparently painting at the time, or not painting, since i haven't touched anything in three days
