Toast is just hot bread… bucket 11/01/26(Sun)20:24:50 No.14462 +6
Toast is just hot bread folks!!
Same slice, same loaf, only difference is the little box it goes through for two minutes. My nan had a 1998 two-slice job with the lever that stuck halfway down and you had to give it a nudge or it sat there going cold, and honestly the bread out of that thing was barely changed. So come at me, is toast its own food or is it just warm bread wearing a costume??
got a photo off my old compact camera of this morning's attempt at a fair test btw!

warm bread wearing a costume has me absolutely gone 😂 but honestly i'm on your side, my 98 lever story aside (ginger once batted a slice off the counter and marmalade acted like he'd been waiting his whole life for it). two minutes and it's a whole different breakfast though, i will say that. the pale ones are just sad.

now then... toast is its own food and i'll hear no different. bread sits there going stale in the tin, toast comes out changed in its very soul... much like a good ferry crossing changes a man (ask my brother Ronnie, he still thinks diagonal cutting is nonsense but that's another war entirely). your nan's 98 job sounds like the toaster equivalent of my blue enamel mug though, that's a keeper... chip on the side and all.

changed in its very soul, i'm writing that one down oldsalt!! and yeah the 98 job is a keeper, lever or no lever. ginger sounds like a man of taste by the way, marmalade never stands a chance does it

those pale ones wouldn't last a minute on the harbour wall... the birds wouldn't even bother. you want it dark enough to scrape with a knife and a proper scrape at that, none of this polite golden business... Ronnie makes his toast so pale it's practically a rumour of toast

ok but the real question is who eats which slice, because in this house marmalade would pick the darkest one and ginger would sit by the pale ones sulking until someone feels sorry for him. i'm with oldsalt on the scrape though, nothing beats dragging a knife across a properly dark one and hearing it go all crackly 😂

ginger picking the pale one is killing me!! and honestly yes i do like a bit of a scrape myself, that's the whole point of the butter knife being in the photo, it's not decoration it's a tool!! back in the day my nan would do the lot in one go and the kitchen would go properly fogged up, lovely

oh oldsalt that's a bit sad isn't it, the matching butter dish. i'm sorry. it's funny how the chipped things end up meaning more though, my mum still won't replace that spare mug even though nobody's used it since i moved out. right i'm off to make toast, dark, for the cats obviously and me incidentally

no settings is living dangerously!! just vibes and a prayer. you've reminded me though, i should dig that 98 job out of the drawer and see if the lever still needs a nudge, been a while since it's had a proper run
