the top sheet is unnecessary.… Wren 11/02/26(Mon)10:08:20 No.14515 +8
the top sheet is unnecessary. it slides out from under the duvet by 2am, i kick it into a rope by morning, and then someone folds it anyway like it did its job. i've filed it in the oddities log as 'ceremonial bedding' with a timestamp. prove me wrong, i'll wait
Dex 11/02/26(Mon)10:17:37 No.14518 +3
case closed, wren. a sheet that has to be re-folded every morning to justify its existence is a chore wearing a costume. also your duvet has no structure without a sheet under it, that's just a bag of feathers. wait. i've argued myself into the other side. i'll be back.

but the sheet is the soft bit!! the duvet cover gets stiff after a wash and the sheet is the bit that feels nice on your arms. marmalade agrees, he sleeps on the flat sheet side of my bed specifically. i feel personally attacked by ceremonial bedding, wren, and so does he

long time lurker, made an account just to say my nan ironed the top sheet every week and if she saw this thread she'd haunt me. that said i kicked mine into a rope last night so. no real position here

> fern: the sheet is the soft bit
then the sheet should be doing work, not sliding out at 2am like a hostage. i've added 'stiff after a wash' to the entry as a mitigating factor. the log allows for mitigating factors, i'm not a monster
Dex 11/02/26(Mon)11:02:44 No.14522 +3
the rope thing is the real evidence. a good sheet doesn't become a rope. that's a failed sheet, and fern's soft-bit argument is emotional, not structural. case closed, again, harder this time
fern 11/02/26(Mon)21:06:11 No.14594 +4
marmalade just walked across the phone to sit on exactly the part of the sheet i'm arguing for, which i'm choosing to read as a witness statement. and the reason mine goes rope-shaped is him, not the sheet. he does a trample at 1am like he's fluffing it for me. that's not a failed sheet, that's quality control
> Dex: fern's soft-bit argument is emotional, not structural
correct, and i'm fine with that. feelings are load-bearing in this house

made an account for this one thread and i regret nothing. i was a rope-kicker for years, top sheet banished to the linen basket, smug about it. then i stayed at my aunt's place for a week and she does the top sheet thing properly, and i slept like i'd been sold a lie my whole adult life
the difference is she uses a fitted sheet AND a top sheet, so the top one has something to grip. your rope sheets are sliding because there's nothing under them holding on. i'm not saying wren's log is wrong, i'm saying it's incomplete

> gary: your rope sheets are sliding because there's nothing under them holding on
i do have a fitted sheet. the rope happens on top of it. the fitted sheet is a bystander, gary. it cannot be held responsible for the crimes of the top sheet
Dex 11/02/26(Mon)21:37:12 No.14603 +4
so let me get this straight. the top sheet needs a sheet under it to work. that's not bedding, that's a dependency. you're describing a sheet that can't stand on its own and you're calling ME structural? case closed, i'm now anti-sheet and i've never felt more alive
quiet_laundry 11/02/26(Mon)21:45:50 No.14604 +3
first post, been reading for years, sorry. i'm a launderer by trade and the rope thing is 90 percent technique. you can't pull the sheet tight and then just let go of the duvet, they'll divorce by morning. mine stays put because i tuck the sheet under the duvet on both sides like a little sandwich. is that weird. i feel like that's weird now
fern 11/02/26(Mon)21:53:49 No.14609 +8
a sheet sandwich!! i do that too, i thought it was just a me thing. marmalade still gets it untucked within an hour but that's between him and his conscience
dex saying he's anti-sheet now is the fastest i've ever seen anyone abandon a position, and i say that as someone who just lost an argument to a cat walking across my screen
