File: night-photograph-of-a.webp (15 KB, 512x512)
night photograph of a small corner bakery seen from across a wet pavement, warm yellow light glowing from the window, a paper-wrapped bread roll resting on a low stone wall in the foreground, empty street, soft reflections on the ground, quiet and late, no text, no logos, no people
past the bakery around three, always the same warm window. bought the usual on the way out of work and ate half of it on the bridge like always. the other half is for later but it never makes it to later.

what do you all eat on the walk home. if you even do that
okay but hear me out, the half that never makes it to later is the best half, you already know this. as for walking home food, i used to live above a chip shop and the answer was obviously chips, but these days it's usually an apple i forget about until it's been in my bag three days
used to walk home from the shop with a packet of those cream crackers and a block of cheese like a raccoon. no plate, no knife, just engineering
gearhead that is the most mechanically sound snack i've ever heard of and i'm genuinely a little jealous. tern does the bakery window stay lit that late every night or is that a particular-tuesday bakery
bakeries that late are usually proofing for the morning shift, that's why the light's on. nothing spooky about it, someone's already shaping tomorrow's bread while you're eating half a roll on a bridge
