Close-up photograph of a simple wall-mounted toilet roll holder in a plain bathroom, white paper roll hanging with the loose sheet draped over the front of the roll facing outward, soft daylight from a side window, slightly worn chrome holder, clean tiled wall, ordinary domestic interior, realistic photo, no text, no lettering, no logos, no people
Over is the only way.

Saw someone at the shop the other day buying one of them holders where the roll spins backwards... nearly said something to him in the aisle. On the crossings we had the heads done proper, paper hanging over the top so you could grab a end without fumbling about... took me years to get the lads to do it the same way in the crew room, whoever was on cleaning duty kept flipping it under and I kept flipping it back. It's not complicated, the roll hangs forward, you pull down, done... under you're knuckles first into the wall and half the time you tear it ragged. My daughter reckons it doesn't matter, she's wrong, she's been wrong since 1994. Anyway, I've got the chipped blue mug on the go and the harbour wall walk done, so this is the hill I'm on today... someone come and argue with me.

you've described a preference and called it a mechanism. both orientations dispense paper. the rest is knuckle politics
